Useful Information
Our beautiful nursery is warm and inviting to little visitors but if you think your child will take some time to adjust, don’t worry, we have different ways of addressing this. When numbers are high, we operate a staggered intake, with no more than two new starters in any one session. We find this very effective in reducing stress levels in the setting and ensuring a calm environment for new and existing children.

We believe children settle best when they have a key person to relate to so we allocate each child with a key worker before they start. Their role is to ensure that your child’s care, learning and development is tailored to their needs. They will be responsible for observing and assessing your child, forming a strong bond with them through playing and talking to them.

We accept children from 2 years to school age supporting the development of all children including those with special educational needs. Our setting works to the requirements of The SEN Code of Practice, and the nursery is registered on the Early Years Register and both the voluntary and compulsory Childcare Register. We are managed by the Governors of Shiplake CofE Primary School. Our DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING LEAD is HOLLY ACKROYD (Deputy Leigh Leadbetter). Our SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS COORDINATOR is HOLLY ACKROYD (supported by Sophie Underwood).

Opening Hours and Term Dates

We are open from 9am to 3pm. The morning session runs from 9am to 12 noon and the afternoon session runs from 12 noon to 3pm. It is possible to extend the morning session (subject to availability) until 1pm in our 'lunch club', where the children enjoy their packed lunch with staff and friends.
Autumn Term 2018
Term 1 & 2 – Autumn Term: Wednesday 5th September to Thursday 20th December, with half term w/c Monday 22nd October.
The Nursery will be closed 4th September, Friday 19th October and December 21st for inset days.
Spring Term 2019
Term 3 & 4 – Spring Term: Tuesday 8th January to Friday 5th April, with half term w/c Monday 18th February and the Easter break commencing Monday 8th April.
The Nursery will be closed Monday 7th January for an inset day.
Summer Term 2019
Term 5 & 6 – Summer Term: Tuesday 23rd April to Wednesday 24th July, with half term w/c 27th May.
The Nursery will be closed on Monday 22nd April and Monday 6th May for Bank Holidays and Monday 3rd June for an inset day.

Your child's day
Whilst there is no such thing as a typical day, it might look a little like this:

  • Drop off and self-registration, settle to an activity.
  • Combination of free play and pre-planned activities: offering a range of activities inside and outside which cover the 7 areas of learning outlined in the EYFS (explained in more detail in the 'curriculum' section of our prospectus)
  • Snack time: children are free to decide when they would like to stop playing for something to eat or drink. They independently wash their hands, and then choose milk or water and from a variety of fruit and veg. The children sit down and enjoy this time together with their friends.
  • Group time: We use this time to hold a group discussion, celebrate an individual achievement or birthday or enjoy some music and movement.
  • Story Time: we hold this indoors and outdoors and we encourage parents, grandparents or carers to come and contribute.
  • Hand wash and Lunch: children and staff sit down and enjoy their packed lunches together.
  • We continue the afternoon with free play/planned activities followed by a snack, and end the day with story time, which the children all enjoy and participate in.
